Party Parking

Just thought I’d set this up as a separate topic so it didn’t get lost in the other party threads, but here is some info that might help those who will be coming in cars and haven’t been to Caernarfon before.

Some hotels and guest houses have their own car parks, but neither Travelodge nor Premier Inn have their own. There are two large long-stay car parks nearby though.
There are also several short-stay car parks within walking distance, but these are more expensive for the upper time limits and the upper time limits are obviously not as long as those in the long-stay parks.
There is a small car park at the Galeri itself which is free after 6pm (it’s a short-stay only one up to 6pm), but it doesn’t hold many cars.

Disabled spaces in all council car parks are free on display of blue badges.

There are no free council car parks, and whilst there are a couple of streets you can park on all day for free, finding a space is a matter of luck. Most of the streets have shortish time limits.

The supermarkets (Morrisons, Asda and Home Bargains) have their own car parks and are close to the Galeri but be aware these have time limits and are covered by cameras and they DO fine you for overstays.

If anyone has any other specific questions just ask and I (as a ‘local’) will try to find you a specific answer!

That’s very helpful, Siaron. I’m staying at the Premier Inn and this is their advice

There is no on-site parking available at this hotel. Pay and display parking is available over the road at £5 per day. Please note that the pay machine only accepts coins.

I’ll just have to remember to top up my parking ticket at lunch time on the Saturday. If anyone sees me round then please remind me
The car park in question is called Balaclava Car Park/Maes Parcio Balaclafa and yes, bizarrely, it only accepts coins which will ruin the line of my dinner suit :frowning:

These are the two long-stay parks. The orange one is also known as the ‘Shell site’ and the red one is the Balaclafa. If anyone needs to park in one of these but has a high vehicle, go for the orange one - there’s a 2m height restriction on the red one.

Each time I’ve stopped there before I’ve set up an alarm on my phone to remind me. You could do that if you have such technology. If you don’t I could set a separate “Huw alert” on mine and hunt you down. I won’t pay for you though, that may be seen as favouritism.

Very helpful, Siaron, thanks.
Looks like the Dock/Shell car park for my work van. Hoping to find a space.
