Origin of croeso

Hi,

Most languages have a separate word for ‘to welcome’ from the response ‘its my pleasure’. Modern Welsh uses the same format as English i.e. Croeso.

1.Croeso i Gymru
2. Croeso (you are welcome)

Does anyone know if this format has just followed the English use of the word ‘welcome’. Has the English derived from the Welsh or some other explation? Are there historical alternatives for ‘croeso’ (my pleasure) used in Welsh that anyone is aware of? @garethrking

Many thanks,

Andrew

Perhaps from? Greso, gresaw, gwresog, gwres, warmth, passion ayyb?
