Shwmae bawb, gobeithio chi’n iawn, Maggie o Gaerdydd sy 'ma.
I thought I’d share my news with you, especially as some kind SSiW friends have encouraged me to. I’ve finally published my novel ‘Our Harp’ - and those are words I never thought I’d say…it’s been quite a journey! It’s a novel written in English that has Cymru bursting out of every page, mostly set in a fictional village in the Rhondda, and very much inspired by my family history. The main protagonist comes from a Welsh-speaking family but has been living a ‘di-Gymraeg’ life in London. She is a burnt out teacher who returns to her homeland and revives her rusty Welsh language skills while setting off on a journey of self-discovery…and of course it is also an unlikely love story.
So, if you’re looking for something to read which is a feelgood, quirky, Welsh-infused story of a woman and a community seeking healing from trauma - look no further…It has been described as ‘the Mabinogion meets Gavin and Stacey’ though I don’t quite see it as that - I thought I was writing an affectionate delve into my family history and the irresistible force of hiraeth, with a healthy dose of Welsh humour. I didn’t know anything about harps before I wrote it, but on a whim I introduced a harp into the narrative and it became one of the main characters.
It’s available as an ebook right now from all the major online bookstores and it’s on Amazon Kindle.
