New words and expressions

At around 155 hours in the Northern Welsh course, I’m no longer receiving any new words or expressions. I’ve tried all the different levels. How do I make further progress?

Congratulations, you have reached the end of the available material! (If you are using the newest iteration of the course, the App, it should say something like “infinite play” on the screen somewhere)
For further progress, you could check out the Advanced Material section, although that only provides listening material.
The best way to make progress now would be to go out into the world and use your Welsh, in whatever way you can think of: go to language meet-ups or book clubs, read books, listen to radio, watch TV …
Good luck and have fun!

Some people also find it useful to run through the Original Course material as it gives some different structures and increases your vocabulary.

You can find that by going to Account, then My Resources in the app and choosing Original Courses. Initially it will be revision, but you very quickly come across variations.

Thanks Deborah. But have gone into My Resources, and it does not lead to Original Courses. Can’t find them anywhere!

I’ve just had a quick look, and the link is there. You need to scroll down in My Resources until you come to the section for ‘Learning Welsh’ then it’s near the bottom, above Welsh Facebook Page. Do you see it there?

Thanks - have found the link, and will have a go!

Hello again! I have been following the Original Course, and found it very useful indeed. My own personal view is that it is more interesting and comprehensive than the New course, particularly as it gives some explanation of the terms and seems to have a more logical progression. Please do not get rid of it (just in case you were thinking of doing so). Combining what I’ve learned from the two courses, I am now beginning to “think” in Welsh on occasion, and have even dared to include some expressions in WhatsApp messages to a couple of Welsh-speaking friends. I have however found instances where the old and new courses give different translations. For example, for “You said”, the old course gives “n’est ti’n deud” whereas the new course has “ddudest ti”. (Pardon my spelling…) Are these simply alternative ways of saying the same thing? Or am I missing something?

There’s no intention to do away with the old course, and you’re not the only one who finds it useful, though most say they found it good to do the Levels first. I presume that will apply to those starting their learning now with the latest SaySomethingin app as well.

Yes, those are just alternative ways of saying the same thing and you’ll hear both used in the community, so it’s good to become familiar with them. You can then choose the way you want to say it, creating your own style of Welsh fel petai (as it were)
