MP3 Players

I have decided to buy an MP3 player, as suggested by Iestyn, to help my efforts in the level 1 challenges. In my naivety, I assumed they would all be compatible with a PC or iMac.
Having semi decided on which model of MP3 player to buy, and read through the Q&A pages of other purchasers, I’ve realised that it may not be as straightforward as I had supposed.
I’ve got an iMac, and have downloaded the lessons through iTunes. However, one of the answers to the questions raised by some buyers on compatibility states that only Apple products are compatible with iTunes, although others may be suitable for Apple software (whatever that means- I’m not a computer buff ).
I’m sure that many other learners must have iMacs, and would like to request suggestions as to a suitable MP3 ( apart from an iPod ) which would be compatible, and with which you have been satisfied.

Shwmae William.
Many mp3 manufacturers recommends suitable programs to use for downloading mp3 files onto their devices (if any program is needed at all) which can be installed on Mac and PC. Some players may even come with software to install on your computer for the purpose of downloading music files onto your new mp3 player.
And even though you may have downloaded your lessons onto iTunes already, they don’t necessarily have to stay there, and you can still access the lesson files through your file manager and copy them to the new software, or even directly onto the mp3 player, depending on the method it requires for loading files onto it.
Since I use iTunes to download my lessons onto my iPhone (as a backup if the SSiW app fails), I don’t use any other mp3 player myself, so I’m only going by what I knew before I became an Apple junkie! But you should still be able to download your lessons onto an mp3 player without having to use iTunes, even on a Mac.
I’m sure someone who does use non-Apple MP3 players with music loaded from a Mac will shed some more light on this soon, with even a recommendation of which player is best. I’m too iBiased to know for sure now! But I do know your lesson files are not restricted to iTunes.

S’mae William,

I cannot recommend the iPod highly enough, its simply brilliant, and can run apps like Ap Geiriadur and Memrise, as well as the SSiW app, to help with your Welsh. They are pricey however, and much more reasonably priced players are available. As Gavin says, the files you have downloaded via iTunes from the website are just mp3 files, and not specific to Apple devices, although the iTunes product itself will only sync files to Apple products. You would need to use whatever method is suggested by the device manufacturer to get files onto your player of choice. But give the iPod serious consideration if you can possibly stretch to the price, it really is worth it in the end.

Hwyl,

Stu

You have given me some clues on how to proceed, and I am very grateful for them.
