Mental note: don't practise Welsh on celebrities!

I was at an event in Lancashire recently where there was a Welsh actor - Kai Owen from Torchwood and Hollyoaks. I was considering going to talk to him but I didn’t really know what to say until I thought that I could try speaking to him in Welsh. After saying hello and asking how he was, I said that I had a question and he said, “Oh yes?” I then said, “Wyt ti’n siarad Cymraeg?” He replied in Welsh that he did! We had a very brief conversation in Welsh, mainly me saying that I was learning to speak Welsh and him asking how long I’d been learning. However, after that my brain completely gave up and I forgot absolutely everything else that I knew which was very embarrassing. I had to make excuses in English instead. I think he appreciated my attempt all the same. My heart was hammering so hard when I walked away!

Well done! That’s brilliant
And that’s the secret - do that any time you get the chance (celebs or not) and the chats will get longer the more you get used to it. It’s all about confidence, not vocabulary
Celebrities are just people you recognise at the end of the day, nothing to be scared of!
Da iawn ti!

I had to laugh as I know the feeling!
It that happens me when trying to chat to anyone in Welsh - even my Welsh husband!

Even your husband! That does make me feel a bit better, Diolch.
