Limericks about love and learning about Wales

Helo Ffrindiau—from the west side of the ‘Pond’.

With St. Dwynwen’s Day fast approaching, why not share in the fun of the Vancouver Welsh Society’s annual challenge of writing limericks about love  while weaving in one of the following two Welsh place names: Tywyn or Llanfair? The place-names change each year.

There once was a couple from Tywyn,
Who constantly found themselves rowin’,
But at the end of the day,
They’d each give some way,
Then they’d kiss and make up, kids allowin’.

There was a young man from Llanfair,
Who proposed to a girl on a dare,
The young lass said yes,
Which as you might guess,
As an outcome must be rather rare.

Gwych!

An ambitious young man from Llanfair,
Thought he’d set his date’s heart afire.
But that’s not how she felt,
And being a black belt,
Proved he certainly was a high flyer.

If you are looking for love in Llanfair,
perhaps you should join the choir.
They make music together
whatever the weather,…
Who knows what else could transpire?

A daring young bloke from Tywyn,
Thought he’d play strip poker and win
With a girl from Llanbedr
Who could play even better…
Now he’s married—not able to sin.

There was a young man from LLanfair
Who, thanks to the love in the air
Kissed a sweet girl
All in a whirl
He stayed, they married, he’s there!

A young girl who hailed from Tywyn
Thought kissing in public a sin
Her long suffering swain
Said ‘Dear I complain’
Now they’re happily married with twins

‘Car mechanic with a spare tyre
looking for love in Llanfair.’
Reading this ad,
his wife was so mad,
you should see what he then had to buy her!

Some skinny-dippers from Tywyn
thought they’d go for a swim in a llyn.
But like a cold shower,
icy dŵr has the power
to quench passions before they begin.
