Learning is Optimized When We Fail 15% of the Time

I thought some of you might find this article interesting…

“If you are taking classes that are too easy and acing them all the time, then you probably aren’t getting as much out of a class as someone who’s struggling but managing to keep up,”

Interesting, thanks.
Although with Welsh, my average has usually been way closer to 50%-85% fail so far.
But I’m sure I’ve learnt a lot anyway!

From my experience of SSiW Level one challenges to date (I’ve just started Her 24) I would say that many, especially the earlier ones, are around that area - I got around 80% much of the time. Some were much harder (and you know which they were…) but generally the right ballpark for me.
What interests me is the question of moving on each week. I assume that this is to maintain the level of failure/ difficulty at around the same level (15%)? Yet it really goes against the grain for many of us (witness the comments in the Slack group).
Yet I know it works, because I continue to improve my range and abilities. Another interesting thought, it’s not much different from the so-called 80/20 rule, where 20% of what we do gets 80% of the results and vice versa. I realise that it is not the challenges we get right that helps us learn but the mistakes!
Great fun, and thanks for sharing it!
