Kindle Frustration

Has anyone else bought or used, set up a kindle?

Kindle isn’t straight forward as it seems. Firstly you buy the kindle to suit you. Then if you don’t want to commit to a subscription you buy a book. And yes it’s Full price. And Not Audible. So if your interest is in listening to improve the target language you test the waters and sign up to free months subscription. Being careful you remember the starting date as you don’t go over and be recharged if you don’t want to remain. Then you download a free Audible book, One per month Only. But you actually need Audible and readable version to pair up to readable. All this takes time, energy and a certain amount of knowledge or guesswork. ( or Luck :shamrock: lol)
So unfortunately I’m still negotiating my way around what should have been a very simple process. Yes I can listen to the book. Yes I can read it. But as of yet not at the same time.
Has this been anyone else’s experience.
Muchas gracias

I don’t have a Kindle device, but I do have both the Kindle app and the Audible app on my iPad (both without subscriptions).

If I want to read along while listening, I have to buy the print version (making sure to get the same edition/version as the audiobook). I don’t think there’s any other way with Audible and Kindle?

The only other way I’ve found to listen/read along at the same time is to find podcasts for language learners that include a transcript.

Yeah it seems to be the case. But lots of free books, or very cheap. And podcasts. Its primarily to listen and read. So buying the book also seems to defeat the purpose as its the same price, well usually. Well probably on minority languages. But when you buy the electronic version…you have the abilities to apply a dictionary and get example sentences etc…so is actually quite helpful…i honestly haven’t decided on getting books or electronic yet. Im kinda now thinking of buying electronic version, getting pretty familiar with it. Then buy audio and practice listening.

Even for mainstream languages it gets expensive to buy both audio and print versions. For that reason I only have audio versions for a few (one or two for each language I’m learning); I have more printed books. I much prefer print anyway, I find reading screens tiring on my eyes.

I know that my iPad can open my Audible app and keep it open and playing while I open my Kindle app (or any other app for that matter). I wonder if the Kindle device can do the same?

Crazily enough after all the annoyance of buying a book and it being as expensive as actual book and still no audio… as i read the book i could access the dictionary to learn a word or full sentence. Something i can’t do with an actual book without dictionary surfing. Regarding being on phone reading. Im already doing that too much…so im used to it lol. Im contemplating rebuying the book i returned lol. Im just so new to this concept that i was originally against, im still trying to figure out which system i like best. Ill probably be fluent in Sbaeneg by the time i get it lol. But then id like to try Irish and Welsh books. Or possibly the next language!!!
