Just trying out the Spanish and find the text very helpful

Hi,
I’m currently working through the Welsh course ( as a supplement to my Sylfaen studies). I have found the SSIW course incredibly helpful for developing my spoken Welsh - raelly enjoying it. I was curious about how I would find a language like Spanish, where I have no prior knowledge of the language.

I’m working my way through the level 1 challenges, and I am finding it harder compared to SSIW as I am not familiar with the sounds, and neither do I know anything of vocabulary or grammar. As a result I am having to listen to the Challenges a few times - which didn’t surprise me - but when I do this the result is the same as for Welsh. My speaking skills improve significantly.

I’ve seen comments elsewhere on the forum as to whether or not the Challenges should show text. I just wish to say that, as a learner, I find it extremely helpful to see all the text for my initial listen to the Challenge, as it gives me the confidence that I am understanding the audio and making the correct responses. In addition it is getting me familiar with Spanish text, and so preparing the way for reading later. On subsequent reviews of a Challenge I am quite happy to work with just the mp3, as at that point I am happy thatI know what I am doing.

Thank you very much for a great course.

@mike-80 thanks for the comments, and fantastic to see that you’re on your way to becoming a Spanish speaker as well as a Welsh speaker! There’ll be no stopping you!

Did you know that you can also learn Spanish through the SaySomethingin app? It shows the English prompt and the Spanish text with the male voice. You can find it if you search for SaySomethingin (no spaces) in the usual app stores, or there is a web version at app.saysomethingin.com

Un saludo,
Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Thanks forthe extra information re the app. I’ll have a look at that as well.

I had an opportunity to try SSIW last year which I didn’t follow up. When I started using SSIW this year, I realized I’d made a big mistake by not giving it a go last year. As a result of my experience in using SSIW, I’ve been doing my best to spread the word regarding SSIW to my classmates - and also to family and friends regarding SSI’s other language offerings. It is an exciting time to see SSI now at the point where many languages will start to be available, and I wish SSI every success for the future.

Muchas gracias,

Mike
