Italian web app issues

Hi @Catriona,

Sorry about that - we can have look at your account to see what is going on there.

There is about to be a release of all of the Apps to make a change to the way progress is recorded (…which becomes unwieldy for those who are pushing on).

It is very possible that it is this - but we will check.

I notice that Apple have approved their App overnight. We are still waiting for the Play Centre approval to come through.

There will be a new version of the Web App to go with them and a change on the server also. So all of that will need to be coordinated at the beginning of next week.

Thanks, @rich. Fingers crossed that will sort things out.

Just to keep you up to date, I tried again this morning. The Italian failed in exactly the same way (cutting out and crashing the moment ‘Arun’ started to speak). So I thought I’d try loading the Spanish course I’d dabbled in previously. That’s when things got really weird. It played - but what I heard was not Spanish, but Italian. And not Italian from where I’d left off, but Italian from quite early on in the course.

Yep, sounds like a space problem!

The change in the way progress is recorded will cause it be cut to a small fraction of what it was with the change in place.

( Depending on how much progress you have in Spanish, logging off and logging on should help. It will only download progress from the language you last did - Spanish in this case - freeing up the space from Italian.)

I presume we’ll get an email when the update has gone through? (Getting withdrawal symptoms!)

Hi @Catriona

Well, I have removed Apple from my Xmas card list because they approved the App last Friday but when we tried to release it this week, they told us they had deprecated a library - which we would therefore have to replace, retest, resubmit and wait for approval - again!

However the change is done and tested, and we are in the market for some beta testers, if you (or anyone else) is interested in doing that?!

You’d just get a pre-release version on Friday which wouldn’t come from the App Store/ play store.

Oh, now I’m a bit confused. But maybe because I am on Android? I was back in business today (yay!), with a slightly different looking app, and everything worked fine for me. So I assume the changes on the Android app have gone through?

I am having an issue with the Android app that I haven’t seen on this thread yet. The app randomly stops and I have to press play again. It is not a huge problem as I can just double tap my ear buds to get it to start again, but I thought I mention it to see if it is a known issue or not.

Hi @Breandan

We are just starting to look at this - we believe it is connected to a new Android os version and possibly a battery saving feature which stops jobs running in background mode.

Do you happen to remember if you accepted the pop up asking whether it was OK to run in background mode and this might effect the battery? We are just on the trail of this one at the moment?

Thanks

Hi Rich,

I just checked and I have allowed it to run in the background. I figured that I had because it runs when I turn the screen off to put it in my pocket.
