Halo,

I saw on a YouTube video once where someone was visiting Wales and his local guide said in Welsh, something like “it is a blessing to be a Welshman who speaks Welsh”.

  1. Is that an actual common phrase?
  2. I cannot find the video again and I was wondering if someone has a translation of that.

I realise this is an old thread (and I can’t help you), but I recently came across this in a beginners’ book " Dw i ddim yn angel, ond dwi’n siarad iaith y nefoedd" (Lois Arnold, E-Ffrindiau). Thought you might like it.

Starting from a search for anything involving the word “bendith” (blessing) and “bod yn Gymro”, I came across the sentence, “Mae’n fendith bod yn Gymro a siarad Cymraeg” (it is a blessing to be a Welshman and speak Welsh) near the bottom of this page:

I think what the speaker actually says is “Mae’n fendith bod yn Gymro ac yn siarad y Gymraeg” - but that’s only subtly different, and in ways that don’t affect the meaning at all.
