I watched the programme last night mainly as I thought his face looked familiar! I was so surprised to see another familiar face, Hywel’s friend, Meirion Evans!
He was a Welsh chapel minister in Burry Port whom I have known for most of my life! From going to the Gymanfa canu with my grandmother in the early 70’s to being one of the ministers presiding over my father’s funeral, where Meirion Evans spoke so eloquently about my dad. I was also married by him in a bilingual Welsh service (my ex spoke Welsh). I think he will be officially opening the Eisteddfod this Friday too!
Small world!
I thought it was an excellent programme about Hwyel Teifi Edwards, great man, Cymro gwych!
It was indeed excellent!!!..He made/asked a lot of thought provoking questions. I loved his comment in, Caffi Emlyn: “The English aren’t our problem in terms of the Welsh language…We (the Welsh) are the problem. Us up here (in our heads). It’s a psychological problem. Why do we lack confidence? We can speak two languages…”

Oh I agree, I loved that comment too, he hit the nail on the head there!
Another great comment by Hywel on Lord Tonypandy’s quote: "But what will they (the English) think of
us…?"
Hywels response: “That’s not the question, for any nation that wants a long and healthy life, it’s what we think of ourselves that’s the question.”
