Prynhawn da, how would I say:
They prefer,
They would prefer,
We prefer,
We would prefer,
Diolch, I’m trying to practice saying sentences like
“they prefer to go to beach in the summer”
“they would prefer to buy property in Spain”
“we prefer shopping in asda”
“we would prefer driving there in the evening”?
Diolch
They prefer - mae’n well ganddyn nhw
They would prefer - bysai’n well ganddyn nhw
We prefer - mae’ well gynnon ni
We would prefer - bysai’n well gynnon ni
That’s brilliant thank you Siaron
Is there any difference between North and South, Siaron, diolch
Ah, yes there is - for South it would be gyda (or just 'da) instead of the ‘gan’ forms -
They prefer - mae’n well 'da nhw
They would prefer - bysai’n well 'da nhw
We prefer - mae’ well 'da ni
We would prefer - bysai’n well 'da ni
That’s great, thank you
In the South wouldn’t they use byddai rather than bysai in the conditional?
Here in the North it can be:
Well gynnon ni or ganddyn ni - we prefer
Fysa’n well or Sa’n well gynnon ni or ganddyn ni - we would prefer
Just some alternative ways of saying the same thing in ‘Street Welsh’.
