How best to use the app?

I am 3/4s the way through Blue Belt (I have repeated a belt or two before though). My current learning style being able to sit still so I can read and listen to the phrase and I repeat them out loud. When I try to do the app whilst walking with the dog (so not able to look at my phone so easily) I forget the longer phrases and so can’t translate them. I might get the first chunk or two but the rest of the chunks are gone from my brain as soon as they are said.

Am I doing the app ‘wrong’? Is it always meant to be done by just listening and saying rather than the reading? I am a visual learner so seeing it written down (the english and welsh) helps me learn. I nearly always answer the phrases out loud though

No, that’s absolutely normal and you’re not doing the app ‘wrong’ at all. It does take time to be able to remember the longer phrases without seeing them, which is the main reason why we started displaying the text. Originally, the course was totally audio based, but what we advise is not to worry if you can’t get the whole phrase out, or even if you can’t remember it. Just say what you can in the gap, then listen to what comes back. It can help to say it softly along with the second voice as well, to help get it fixed in your memory.

As you progress through, you’ll get the same phrases popping up again and again, and the more times you hear them, the more you’ll remember until it starts to become automatic. Some people have said that eventually they only have to hear the first couple of words of an English prompt they’ve heard several times before and the Welsh comes rushing out.

So just keep persevering, say what you can, and don’t worry about what you don’t remember. You’ll definitely get there - and out loud is the best way to go, with as much confidence as you can muster! :star:
