Dwi’n di bod yn defnyddio SSiW ymarfer siarad a ddysgu Cymraeg (Gogleddol). Yn ystod Lefel 1 pan gofyn am rhywbeth dan ni defeddio y ffurf “Gofyn Wrth”, ond yn Lefel 2 mae’r ffurf wedi newid i “Gofyn i”. Ar hyn o bryd dwi,n dipyn bach yn dryslyd pa un ydi’r cywir? A pam mae’r ffurf yn newid?
They both mean to ask (that’s the gofyn bit), but gofyn wrth is to ask (of) whereas gofyn i is to ask (someone something).
Dydw I ddim isio gofyn unrhwbeth arall wrthot ti - I don’t want to ask anything else of you
Dw I ddim yn bwriadu gofyn i ti pa un sy’n digwydd nesaf - I don’t intend to ask you which one happens next
However, sometimes you hear gofyn wrth when technically it should always be gofyn i - I think that’s because the wrth gets (validly) used with dweud and is ‘automatically’ applied to gofyn when it shouldn’t really be. People will understand you whichever you use.
You’ll also come across gofyn am - to ask for.
Nes i ddim gofyn am banad - I didn’t ask for a cuppa (but if you want to put the person in there, you need the i - nes i ddim gofyn i ti am banad = I didn’t ask you for a cuppa!)
Diolch am hyn. A ddeud y gywir dwi wedi glywed gofyn am hefyd. Diloch unwaith eto Heather
