I started the SSI challenge course as a fun way to pend time when driving to work, and restricted myself purely to the audio course materials. I’m now getting toward the end of level 2 (lesson 22, Northern), but am embarrassed that in spite of feeling that I’ve made some progress on the aural language, I am completely flummoxed when I see anything written in Welsh. Is there a relatively quick way to get my reading up to speed?

Each challenge has a vocabulary list which looks like this on a computer - I don’t know about phones.
This will show you how to write the words and phrases that you know aurally.
Since Welsh is largely a phonetic language, it is worth getting really familiar with the sounds of the letters of the alphabet. You should then be able to read anything aloud, and recognise it if you have met it before.
There are many books for beginning learners. The Mynediad level of Cyfres Amdani might be good to try.
