I’m looking for some games/ideas for the Brussels group. We’re starting to get a firm set of attendees but starting to struggle a bit with the fact that everyone is at a different level. We range from beginners who’ve hardly ever heard Welsh outside of the SSIW lessons to people who are raising their children in Welsh and everything inbetween.
So do you know of any fun and easy games which can help get the conversation going and let everyone get involved?
After making so much progress as a group it would be a shame for people to get frustrated.
If you can get hold of “Lingo Newydd” magazines, we have fun doing the crosswords in the Bridgend meetups, and reading our horoscopes, if not really games.
I didn’t see it mentioned in the thread Diane suggests (though I don’t claim to have read every last word, nor the pages that were linked to), but I’d like to propose “Snap” as a good way for beginners to pick up vocab. With ordinary playing cards you can pick up the numbers very quickly (especially if a player has to say the number as the card is played); as an alternative idea you can easily make up some picture cards along a theme and play with those.
My 3-year-old son has a pack of picture cards with animals on, which we took away with us while staying in a caravan near Llanrwst last weekend, and after half an hour of playing with them he could name all the animals yn y Gymraeg (he maybe knew half beforehand). Even the wife was joining in, though she currently can’t pronounce “llew” any differently to “llaw”
