Extra listening

I’ve seen a lot of conversation and mentio in newsletters of extra listening work. I’m midway through level two. So my questions are : would it make sense for me to be trying this now and what should I do to participate if it does?
Thanks Gareth M

Oh yes, the sooner you throw in extra listening work, the better! Although there are listening exercises in the courses which you should be trying anyway, extra listening practise can be anything from TV to radio, to podcasts, to music… and the great thing is, you don’t have to make a conscious effort to listen, translate or understand all the time (that would be tiring, frustrating and demoralising!) - just have the sound on and let the patterns and rhythms flow into your ears. You’ll probably only catch the odd word to begin with - don’t worry about that, just keep Welsh on in the background as you do something else. In time, bigger and bigger chunks will jump out at you until you get the “Good grief! I understood that!” moment almost out of the blue!

Oh, I thought it was a new set of dialogues I hadn’t found. I generally switch BBC Radio Cymru on when my alarm goes off to try to see if I can grasp what’s going on and then it’s on for at least a few hours each day while I’m working. I do occasionally understand a little of what is going on in a dialogue and even guessed the answer to a quiz once. I chickened out of calling in though because as soon as they spoke I wouldn’t have a clue what was going on :frowning:
thanks for enlightening me again.
Gareth

Well there are more dialogues in the Advanced Learning section and although they’re aimed at people who have done Level 3 you should already have access to them - if you want to give them a go, then yes, go for it, but I’d say since you are in the middle of Level 2, for the moment definitely treat them as a “background listening” thing (like having the TV or radio on) rather than doing them “properly” (by concentrating on them and using the transcription & translation), and certainly don’t worry if they seem too difficult - they’ll be there for you to go through properly when you’ve done Level 3
