Pentre Ifan Woods and Tŷ Canol Woods

Leader: Hedd Ladd Lewis

We will gather at the Salutation Inn car park, Felindre Farchog (SN 100 390) (Postcode SA41 3UY) in time to share lifts in cars to the nearby starting point by 10:30. Please try to reach the Salutation car park by 10.20.

The Walk: A frying pan-shaped journey, two hours, of about 2.5 miles over fairly flat ground. The journey is on paths that are likely to be wet and waterproof shoes are required. From the starting point we go past the Urdd Centre, through the middle of Coed Pentre Ifan and then into Tŷ Canol National Reserve. We leave it near the Tycanol farmhouse in the direction of the Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber but before reaching the Chamber we will turn back through another special forest to rejoin the path in Coed Pentre Ifan which we walked earlier to return to the starting point.

Ascent (gradual): about 250 feet

Points of interest

  • Pentre Ifan woods
  • Dafydd Nanmor, a poet of the Middle Ages who wrote about Plas Pentre Ifan
  • The Bowen Family of Pentre Ifan
  • The life of ordinary people in Allt Pentre Ifan

Refreshments: The Salutation Inn.
