Encontrar v Conocer

The app is using Encontrar as opposed to conocer . Is there much of a difference with these two verbs, also saber?
Also Empezar v Comenzar.

It depends on the context, Alan. I would need to see the whole sentence to give a definite answer, but just generally conocer is to know a person or place, to be familiar with something; whereas, saber is to know a fact or how to do something.

Conocer often gets used for “to meet” when it’s the first time, e.g. we might say “I met the man yesterday”, but Spanish would say conocí al hombre ayer - I got to know him yesterday. We tend to use quedar if it’s meeting up with someone you already know - vamos a quedar esta tarde - we’re going to meet this evening.

There is no difference between empezar and comenzar - they both mean to begin.
