Disgwl or edrych

In the SSiW challenges I have heard the expression MAE’N NHW’N DISGWL YN FYWIOG (They look lively).

In a dictionary of common Welsh words have seen the word DISGWL to mean expect and EDRYCH to mean look.

When to use DISGWL and when to use EDRYCH???

It’s common in Southern Welsh to use disgwl to mean to look, although yes, the dictionaries will usually list it as expect. It doesn’t really matter which you use when (although when using disgwl you may get some odd looks from Northern speakers who haven’t come across that useage!).
