Ddaethoch chi/ Ddest ti... bewildered again

A cheeky Duolingo question…

Ddaethoch chi? and Ddest ti? seem to be used interchangeably for ‘did you come’?

Could someone help explain what the rule is for when to use one or the other?

Thanks, as ever.

There are two forms of ‘you’ in Welsh, ‘chi’ is used where the situation is formal or plural and ‘ti’ is used where the situation is informal or singular, so while they both mean ‘you’, they are not completely interchangeable - although of course in an English sentence it won’t always be clear what the situation is unless there is some context

‘Ti’ is singular, familiar ‘you’- use its forms when talking to a single person informally.

‘Chi’ is plural or polite singular ‘you’- use its forms when talking to more than one person or when you want to be formal.
