Changing the Script?

Interesting. Leaving aside the politics, it seems to me that aesthetically, they will be losing something by this change.

It would be better, really to revert to Arabic letters, if they want to change. Oh why, oh why do folk want to ‘join the West’ when this means diluting their culture for the benefit of USA and UK???

I saw a report about that as well.

One of their goals seems to be to reduce the number of letters in the alphabet - I saw a complaint that most of the keys on a keyboard were devoted to letters (including the number keys etc.).

On the other hand, I’m not too sure whether the use of the apostrophe to create digraphs is the best way to go – I’m sure it’ll not only get replaced by accents (which looks typographically yucky to me - think “you`ve” or “you´ve” instead of “you’ve” or “you’ve”) but also simply left out often (like tone marks in Pinyin, er I mean Pīnyīn) because the apostrophe doesn’t look like an important component in writing, especially by non-Kazakhs, leading to distinct letters merging.
