Celtic Craic Discord: live instant chat in Welsh - siaradwch yn fyw ganddon ni!

Helo i gyd,

I’m part of a Discord group for speakers and learners of Celtic languages.

For those that don’t know, Discord is a chatroom application with live instant messaging, as well as a group voice chat option for those who need some speaking practice. It has the intimate immediacy of Skype, but the group is anonymous and organised much like an online forum, with a general discussion section as well as sub-groups for the various different languages we are learning (Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic; Breton, Cornish and Welsh for the Brythonic team; and even a separate corner for the Munster dialect of Irish).

All ages and learning stages are more than welcome to join us. You can join by clicking this link: https://discord.gg/SvAfTfU although you may have to make a Discord account first.

I can personally recommend it because I would say it has brought me closer to a community of learners – I’m in abroad this year and my Welsh has unfortunately become very rusty. Having a live community for little discussions with little structure is a low-pressure means to encourage us to come out with something to say. I think this fills a separate niche from fora like SSi, which are invaluable for questions and guidance, for organising events, etc. The Discord is more for day-to-day discussion that doesn’t always merit being recorded in the online annals like a forum post! I know I have already recommended SSiC in our Cornish chat, so I hope you won’t think me too cheeky for recruiting here.

That’s my pitch. We’d love to have you! I’ll finish by saying a big thank you to the SSi team and community for all they have taught me :kissing_closed_eyes:

[Just edited the title to make it more accessible to our early stage learners… ]

Tatjana on Discord, member of “Celtic-languages” and “Pangya Celibrity” group (server) although just as on Skype, I’m rearly online there aswell.

For those who play games, the majority of gamers started to use Discord quite a while ago because it’s much more responsive chat tool then Skype or TeamSpeak (as much as I know) especially designed for geming and gamers.

Hwyl!
Tatjana
