Sorry for asking, but is it possible for someone to send me the Northern challenge/old course files in bulk? Or can you help direct me to who can do it?
I used to download them to listen to and had them on an mp3 player, but I always had a strange issue where regularly the file would be truncated or even content shuffled around somehow. I could re-download and after a number of attempts I’d eventually get the full thing, but it was frustrating so eventually I used the built-in player on the web page.
I let my Welsh slip for a while, and I’m now trying to cram in as much as I can before next Friday. So I’m using every spare minute to go through the content again at 2x speed (or occasionally only 1.8x speed when my brain starts dissolving). I no longer use a smart phone (so I’ve gone back to an mp3 player, but no longer have all the files), and even if I did the built in player has no built in speed setting, and its a real pain to have to keep trying to download them and not being sure if it worked until I get to the end of the challenge.
(Realistically I don’t need the level 1 challenges, I’ve revised that content, but the way the old course is structured means having all of those would be particularly useful, and the later challenges too).
I think a few people would appreciate larger downloads, maybe in a compressed format if there are concerns about the size.
I’ve been using the south version, and going through hitting download on each one is hardly the most tedious thing I’ve ever done, but even so a “download entire level” button would have been lovely.
I’m curious @verity-davey , have you also experienced the files not downloading correctly (e.g. ending abruptly or missing the beginning)?
I had the same problem with Spanish many years ago, so it isn’t a new one, and I’ve had it on multiple phones and computers, using multiple browsers. But there are only a couple of messages on the forum that suggest it happens to other people. Your message makes me think it all worked fine for you?
Yes, I’ve seen those messages too, but all my files are fine so far. I haven’t actually gone through and checked every one, but I’ve done all the challenges and around 10 old course lessons with no problems.
I may have had a “download error” pop-up once or twice. That happens sometimes when the internet connection cuts out, but I can’t recall whether it ever happened while downloading SSi files. I’ll be downloading another batch of lessons for offline use soonish, so I’ll watch out for it!
Obviously a partial file isn’t much use to me so if that happens I try the dowload again. Maybe your device doesn’t always send an error message when it should and so you aren’t aware the download was interrupted?
Thanks @charlie-o but that is downloading the individual episodes, which for some reason regularly results in me getting incomplete files for some reason. I was hoping for either a different source to download from, or for someone to send them all to me. Otherwise I get to a certain point in the file and it just cuts out on me, meaning I have to go and turn the computer on and try again if I want to continue.
I’d forgotten, but I did actually download the first 15 challenges in both North and South, before I decided to stick with South. It isn’t a complete level but I could email them to you if that helps?
