Just got sent this by @a_jay - diolch! Fascinating similarities between this and how we expect you to learn Welsh
Hi Aran, Just letting you know that when you click the link it seems to be taking you right to the end of the clip? May just be me though…
Thanks for the headsup, think I’ve fixed it
Working now. And really interesting, thanks for sharing. I so want to try it!
When he said ‘Yeah, I know you think you’d be able to do it’ I gave a guilty start and looked for his spycam…
I really liked the idea of falling of the bike and being so ‘wobbly’, just like my Welsh!! Perhaps SSIW could purchase one or two as icebreakers for Bootcamps…
Seconded! If the budget does not allow this, you can achieve the same effect by crossing your hands over the steering bar, we did that as kids, never mastered it fully though.
My question after watching this was whether he could eventually learn to ride both kinds of bikes at the same time. Well, not at the same time of course, but could he learn to switch very quickly, or is he stuck taking two hours to rewire every time he switches? It seems a bit like speaking multiple languages.
Good point. I suspect he could speed the swirtch over process up by practising? But, I have no evidence for it. it must be possible because polyglots can switch languages without thinking?
Like Andy, I strongly suspect that this would depend on how often he did it, and that it would improve if he switched regularly. I certainly see this in languages - I find it takes less thought for me to switch between Welsh and Spanish (courtesy of years spent with my mate Dave in the pub speaking Welsh and Spanish) than it does for me to switch between Welsh and English (something I very rarely need to do).
