Back after Bootcamp holiday

I am back after my break from Welsh following the completion of my 10 day Bootcamp. I have gone back to the lesson I began it all with (Course 3, Lesson4) and have some positives and negatives to feedback. On the positive side, I am pretty confident with the structures I learned, but I on the other hand I struggled with some of the vocabulary, particularly nouns, which I had forgotten. I think it might have been better for me if I’d kept things going at a slightly slower rate, but this could be age related, I’m 71. Haven’t looked at the last session I did yet, but will do that later today and report back.

I have also had another go at recording “Challenge 9” on soundcloud and have attached a link below. I must admit it was something I learned when doing the “Long sentence” challenge, so isn’t really spontaneous, but this sort of stuff is always useful when conversing with new people … at least that’s my theory. I don’t know if the link will work and it is not very good, but you’re welcome to give it a try.

S’mae Doug?

It looks like there is a typo in the address you provided for SoundCloud; I think that you only entered one “w” rather than “www” - could you please edit your post and check if you can? Otherwise, a moderator may be able to fix it on your behalf.

Looks like the soundcloud stuff is working for me (and that Discourse is embedding it beautifully).

Hi Doug - that SoundCloud file is awesome! Good Welsh, and interesting subject. Da iawn ti…

It sounds like the online Bootcamp worked well for your. As you say, the positive is that you remember the structures, and that is a massive positive. The structures are the “skeleton” of the language. If you know a pattern, you can hang any words onto it, and use it for whatever you need. Individual words, on the other hand, are only useful if you’re going to use them. If you’ve forgotten words that you’re never likely to use, then you won’t miss them (except in lessons!), and you’ll learn words that we don’t teach you, because you want / need to use them.

I love hearing from new Welsh speakers…

I’m getting “This page cannot be displayed” and an address of https://w.soundcloud.com

I get this: (Confusingly pasting an image of this thread)

Maybe an old browser or something?

IE 11 … Doesn’t work in Chrome either. However I am at work so I wonder if our proxy is blocking it?

I don’t know why some people can get the soundcloud upload and you can’t. I copied and pasted the link into my message, but I’m not particularly good at technology. I t may have something to do with my privacy settings as I only wanted this to be available to the Forum.

I think its my end Doug, since others can listen to your recording fine. I was looking forwards to hearing you! I will try again from home later on though.

Diolch, Doug!!! That was great…

The Soundcloud is showing for me, and is excellent :star2:

Doug, if you’re conscious of remembering lots of the stuff, then don’t sweat the bits you feel wobbly on - time and repetition will solve them. The best thing for you to do now is to carry on forward with more new sessions - plenty of time for you to come back and repeat some if you really need to once you reach the end of Course 3:sunny:

Diolch yn fawr iawn Aran,
Iestyn ac Dinas.
Sorry if others are having problems but would the fact that I am using a Mac make the download problematic?
Must also say thanks to Julee whose original post encouraged me to have another go.

You link to SoundCloud is fine on my home PC Doug, so it must be my work machine that is blocking it  Great stuff by the way, da iawn i ti!
