Autopausing issue with App

Eureka! I think I’ve actually got a lead… I thought I’d do a screen recording of the sort of thing I’m experiencing, in case it showed anything helpful. When you do a recording on my phone, you can choose ‘Sound’ from one of three options - None, Media only, Media and Mic. As I was playing it through a Bluetooth speaker, I thought I’d better choose the one with the Mic.

When I played the recording, however, I found that all of the prompts were doubled up, overlapping each other - an internal copy of the sound being output, plus a slightly delayed version via the speaker and the mic. Where I had heard the speaker fall silent, the recording continued with the single voice of the internal copy. (Here’s a link to a short excerpt of the relevant bit https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/gkek145sfbtwo4x4x7tjf/Screen_Recording_20250510_213330.mp4?rlkey=awi0tlaike33govz8dlaecg1k&st=7eyrappi&dl=0.)

So it seems like the app really does “think” it’s still playing, but for some reason the sound temporarily stops being sent to the external Bluetooth speaker. (My connection to the car is also Bluetooth, as are my headphones, so they’re the same.) I wanted to try with a 3.5mm jack, but unfortunately my socket is damaged (and, anyway, many phones don’t do wired these days), so I can’t check, but this would potentially be consistent with getting the same problem on the Web app.

@ianblandford, @mikej - can I check if you’re using headphones via Bluetooth?
@rich - is this actually a clue? :slight_smile:

Oooo good work @RichardBuck - thanks @ianblandford @mikej …we have second diagnostic build available now…trying to pin it down further…(this is with the stores for approval)…

..we will take a good look at that angle.

Thanks all for your help.

Just tried using the phone on its own, no Bluetooth: 25 minutes of uninterrupted Irish so far, with the screen off for about half that time. I really think we might have narrowed it down a bit.

Update: got the 3.5mm socket fixed, and have just done 1hr of Irish with wired headphones/speaker and no silences. Obviously difficult to prove a negative about an intermittent problem, but it’s all consistent so far.

Update: we have got some further confirmation that Bluetooth headphones were involved in the scenario, including Aran. Annoyingly, whilst we have done some testing with Buetooth headphones/ devices we have not been able to provoke it to happen.

We have decided to put the new diagnostic logs in the new build which will go on general circulation next week - as it seems we need a larger number of people to be using it, to allow this infrequent situation to be hit/ logged.

Yeah, the frequency seems very variable & unpredictable - I can drive for half an hour with no interruptions, or have it fall silent every other prompt. Clearly there are other factors at play; let’s hope the logs help. In the meantime, I’ve checked that the car does have an aux socket! :smile:

ETA - since I have been experiencing the issue, I’ll try and make sure to do some on Bluetooth, too, once the new build is out. Public-spirited and all that…
