Automagic App error with Aran's asides?

Hello!

Ever since I switched to using the app version of SSiW, the asides made by Aran have been on repeat every break. I’m not sure if this is actually an error or not, and as much as I love hearing Aran talk about my brain having 100 billion neurons, does it ever change?

P.S. How long does the SSiW South Course last now? I’m currently on the purple+white belt and its not too far off from the black belt!

I have exactly the same problem with what I assume is a new version of the app.
I had previously reported that the first translation voice starts talking before the “time out” gap finishes which is very disconcerting.
Having whizzed through previous belts (this may not be a good thing) I now seem to be stuck on the same “purple with stripe” belt for over a week. Looking at the stats it has consistently said “less than x minutes left”. I’ve done several hours since!
The material seems to be on a constant loop. I will hurl something if I have to say “mae’r dyn ifanc yn ddeg” another time!!!

I have the same problem and I think it’s an issue with the new app as it happened with the latest update.
It is driving me mad! I’m just trying to zone out. I actually really liked the little asides but it is now stuck on the very first one. Glad it’s not just me. I’m on north wales version.

The Tech Team are aware of that rather annoying bug that has crept in where you get to hear about the neurons in your brain almost as many times as the number of neurons, and are working on releasing an update to the app which will fix it ASAP.

There is also more material being added to both the Welsh South and Welsh North courses, so that should help those of you who have reached the end of the currently available material, as you’ll suddenly start getting new introductions and practice phrases.

Diolch byth, mae hynny’n dda i glywed! Thank goodness, that’s good to hear!

Is there an ETA for when the issue will be patched up?

Thank you :folded_hands:

It’s going to be very soon due to its high ‘annoyance factor’ - hopefully in the next day or so.

Phew!

Apologies for posting this here I don’t know how to start new topics etc. the issue I have is with the listinging practice - they are super sped up - unlistenable - when I try to listen to them. I’m on Level 2 but was also the case for some on Leve 1 as well.

The listening exercises are deliberately sped up. The idea is not to try to understand them, just practise listening. The science behind it is that it makes the speed of normal speech (which often sounds fast) seem slower.
It does sound counterintuitive but it does work!

(If you put “listening exercises speed” into the search, you’ll see lots of threads where this is discussed)

No, I mean mine are unlistenable to. It’s not like a Welsh person speaking fast, it’s like an old style cassette being fast forwarded. The first 1-5 in Lesson 1 were fine but then all others are not. I’ll check out that other thread as well. Thanks.

Yes, that’s the speed. A lot of people call it the ‘chipmunks’!

You’ll find as you go through the course the listening exercise do get quicker

Do you know how much material there is currently on the South version? I.e. On average how many hours it’s taken others to get to the end and whether it’s equivalent to say Level 1, 2 or 3 on the challenges or further than that?

Thanks!

@reilly-featherstone I’m not sure how long people are taking to complete the Southern course, but it is the equivalent of Levels 1-3 in content, then it puts you into Infinite Play when you reach the end. That gives you random practice from the whole course.
