Are we going to lose the National Library of Wales?

Funding cuts are potentially threatening the viability of the National Library in Aberystwyth - details here: https://nation.cymru/opinion/are-we-going-to-lose-the-national-library-of-wales/

The article also has a link to this petition to the Senedd/Welsh Parliament about it (you don’t have to be in Wales or even the UK to be able to sign it): https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/244641 - 10,000 signatures are needed to force a debate in the Senedd with 3000 signatures already

Horrors! I have signed. Apart from more general considerations, there’s a lot about my ancestors there, including wills.

Likewise on both counts.

Additionally, the newspaper archive has much of interest, not only to those of us researching our Welsh ancestors, but about life in Wales in general, in (archaic versions of) both languages.

Signed! I spent many happy (some not so) days researching there whilst a postgrad student in Aber.
To axe the National Library would be an act of the utmost cultural vandalism!

Signed and I hope everyone else signs, too. Such a resource should not be neglected!

I’ve already signed it too. The National Library is a treasure house and it should be cherished.

I have signed. The National Library of Wales is a copyright library like the British Library, the equivalent in Scotland and some other libraries - the Cambridge University Library for example. TO axe would surely be impossible - vandalism on a massive scale - like axing the the major museums and art galleries of Wales. It would a scandal for scholarship in general in Wales and any sense of a maintaining a responsible
