Aran&Catrin seeking house-sitter from the 9th to the 24th of July 2025

Dear all,

@aran and I are looking for a house, dog, and cat sitter for two weeks from the 9th to the 24th of July 2025.

Whoever comes to stay must be familiar with dogs and cats, be able to converse in Welsh, and have access to a car.

We live in a rural area on common land (where sheep and cattle roam freely) in an old one-story cottage with a stunning conservatory. We’re 10 minutes from Caernarfon (which is where our vet is located) and have one dog and one cat. We’re also about 15 minutes from the nearest beach. Our large garden is wild and mature, filled with birds, and we often enjoy spectacular sunsets over the sea.

So if you’re looking for an opportunity to spend time in one of the Welshest parts of Wales practising your Cymraeg, maybe this would be a great opportunity?

Also, if you’re an outdoorsy person who loves walking, breathtaking views, wildlife, dramatic old slate mines, peace and quiet, and some of the best stargazing, then you’ll love where we live.

We also have fibre internet, providing an excellent connection. There’s a big-screen TV with access to Amazon, Netflix, Disney+, and many more streaming services. Additionally, we have many board games and many books.

Our dog is a labXspaniel, very affectionate and easygoing. He gets along well with other dogs and is great with kids. He is allowed on the furniture and enjoys sleeping on the bed when given the chance. Since he could easily escape the garden to go for strolls, he was trained early on to leave the sheep alone. Now, he can walk among the sheep off-lead, ignoring them completely, and all the local farmers know us. Our postmen and delivery drivers are familiar with him, as are our neighbours. We walk him once a day, and he is accustomed to being left alone in the house when we go out. He also wears a tracker; if he does escape the garden, we can locate him using an app on our phones.

Our cat is my daughter’s baby; she suffers from anxiety, and the cat provides her with comfort. He is an outdoor cat, with cat flaps allowing him to come and go as he pleases, and we don’t keep cat litter indoors. He is also very affectionate. He occasionally brings in bits of dead rabbits, mice, and voles (but fortunately not many birds), which he sometimes leaves under the bed, so regular checks and disposal of these items are part of the responsibilities.

We are happy for whoever comes to stay to bring their dog, as long as that dog is good with cats and doesn’t pose a risk of scaring our cat away.

As you can imagine, we’re a bit nervous about finding the right house sitter, so it is essential for us to get this right. It’s equally important that whoever stays can enjoy the experience and feel they’ve had a worthwhile holiday by the end of it.

If you’re interested and believe you’d be a great fit for us, please get in touch via private message to start a conversation.

Diolch all!

I’m definitely not the right person for the job (I can’t drive, have no car, my Welsh is only what I learned from SSi and to be totally honest, cats maybe aren’t really my cup of tea, although I’m sure this one is lovely); but I can’t resist commenting on how magical it all sounds for whover takes it on!

Diolch, Martin, that’s very kind of you to say!

It really is lovely here, secluded but not remote, great access to Caernarfon, amazing views and, of course, the company of a very loving dog and an unusually friendly cat …
