Apton

Apton (A sort of Welsh Spotify/Last.fm) is live now - I’ve been clicking about all afternoon like a mad thing lost in the sheer quantity of Welsh music.

30 day free trial and then £6 or £9 a month depending on usage.

Really rather awesome.

They have an android ap! Yupeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Search in Google Play. The first app when you write Apton is actually the Apton.cymru app by Red Dragon Softworks and it says it’s about Welsh music so go ahead …

I know I’ll dismiss Google Music to switch to Apton. The prices are almost the same. Diolch yn waith mwy @leiafee.

I’ve been testing it for a couple of months. It’s important that we feed back any issues. The Android app is substantially more flaky than the iPhone version in my experience, but we need to give it some real-world usage in order that this stuff can be noted and worked on by the developers.

We also need to support it in order that the maximum number of artists and labels come on board. Kicking off this positive cycle is essential for the long-term success of the project.

The pricing difference is explained on the web pages. Basically, for an extra 3 pounds a month (the price of a pint) you get access to whole swathes of long-deleted Sain vinyl archives,

Diolch am hynny @leiafee.

First of all, my main musical interests lie in the genre often called “classical” (but not only in the strict 1750 - 1820 sense). Perhaps it is best described by music you might hear on BBC Radio 3.

By that definition, does Apton have good coverage of Welsh “classical” composers (eg Hoddinott, Mathias, Joseph Parry, Karl Jenkins, Mealor, Walford Davies (honorary Welsh) and a goodly number of others).

That’s ont he free demo which I assume it a demo of the £6 version - don’t know if any of your interests might be on the £9 vinyl version!

Diolch o galon @leiafee.
That’s very useful and answers my question completely. It was very kind of you to take the time to provide such a full response.

As you said “really rather awesome” site.

Update: I haven’t yet succeeded in signing up via Firefox or Chrome. Perhaps I need to wait longer than the 4.7 seconds I normally allow to receive a verification e-mail. Patience is allegedly a virtue.

Update 2: I found the verification e-mail in my junk folder. I retrieved it and logged in OK. I found some Hoddinott but not many of the other Welsh “classical” composers as yet. I’ll keep looking.

I had the oposite problem. I just couldn’t register onmy Android app and it nowhere says I’d get a varification mail and I found it just occassionally in my inbx. Then I’ve register through Chrome on my PC rather then via app and went on the app afterwards and sign in, successfully.

I’m playing some things now but I didn’t figure out yet how to put some of them in the playlist neither how to persuade app to play the whoe list of songs from one album. What you play previously it plays and would repeat endlessly probably if you wouldn’t stop it. Or I’m just not familiar with things? I perform as in other such apps, like Deezer or Google Play Music what might be wrongly taken.
