I am finding it very to progress any further with the automatic course. I am getting about 30% correct in my short 5 minute bursts. I find it easier to do several short segments than longer ones. However, I can’t revise or go back with automagic and its becoming pointless carrying on when i get most sentences completely wrong
I thought there was a rewind thing on Automagic. Have you tried the old course? You’ll find it here and you can skip back and forward. https://en.saysomethingin.com/welsh/course1/intro
i use the rewind on automagic, but you have much control over how far it goes back, or for how long. I find it skips forward again very quickly. the old course is great, but not as user friendly!
When I did the previous version of the course - the one with the challenges, not the “older old” one as in DavidWilsonsteer’s link - the assignment was:
just say something - doesn’t matter if the whole sentence, half of it or even just one word.
I did that, without repeating challenges (except those when I ad fallen asleep, which for some reason happened a lot throughout Level 2 ) and in the end I remember way more than I expected!
The idea was that you learn from your mistakes and you get the chance to practise them again later because expressions come back from time to time so we shouldn’t worry too much about not getting them all correct the first time.
I can do that with the old course, but automagic doesn’t allow me to go back and i am getting so many sentences wrong and/or missing so many words it seems a bit silly to just plough on. For now, I am going back to the old course for revision.
So I got frustrated with the app and went over to the original Automagic web app, which lets you choose your difficulty, and the rewind works fine. The difficulty setting is much more forgiving if you go to the lower levels - much more revision.
I’d suggest that, assuming you’re on the new app at the moment.
That does seem difficult. I’d say really the app is better suited to longer sessions than 5 minutes. If you did even 10 or 15 minutes I think you’d get more into the flow of it and give the app more of a chance to do the spaced repetition that makes it work so well.
But if that’s not possible, the Old Course (or even better, the Classic Challenges) will give you more control over where you are in the material.
While the Old Course is great, most people agree you’ll get more out of it after you’ve done at least Level 1 of the Challenges.
Does anyone know if I can refresh automagic app? I was doing well then had a break and lost my way. I’ve tried rewinding but thought it might be better to get stuck back in from the beginning
The ‘Revisit’ function of the new app is being updated so that it will actually move you back in the course, rather than just give you extra practice of earlier material then continue from where you are.
This isn’t ready yet though, so what I usually suggest is that you use the Challenges audio files to give yourself some extra practice of what you’ve covered in the app so far, then continue on. Using them together like that can help until the new functionality is available.
That is what I did and am finding it very good.
Yeah, I had the same experience. I would go over one lesson several times but then discovered that going on to the next lesson before I thought I was ready was actually the best thing to do. I think Aran keeps saying that …
