Although originally from Shropshire, I raised my family in mid-Wales and taught there for several years. I learned a smattering of Welsh from bilingual friends and the essential basics of ‘incidental’ Welsh to use in the classroom but never had the time or energy to learn the language properly. Now I have six Welsh-speaking grandchildren and I’d like to be able to understand what they are saying and share books with them in the same way I can in English. My hubby and I have lived abroad for twelve years so Spanish and French have been more important but we are planning to return to Wales in the not-too-distant future and I am determined to crack the language properly so that I can chat with people and enjoy the culture to the full. I love learning languages, it’s great fun and very good for my brain! I’m really impressed with the SSi method so far so fingers crossed . . .
