Siarl
‘Higher Repetition’ learner. I am (attempting) learning Gymraeg to make a deeper connection to my Welsh heritage. I find the langue beautiful and it makes my heart sing to speak the little I know out loud. I hope to be a small help in ways that I can to the SSiW community. I have had no natural connection to spoken Welsh other than a grandmother (long passed) who used to say “Sut dych chi” to us (we were told that was a friendly greeting like “Hello!” Learning is a painfully slow process for me, but I have been diligently practicing nearly every day for over two years now. Unfortunately, I’m also a painfully shy person. Tending to watch from the corners, being so physically distant from other Welsh learners has slowed my progress as well.
I love Cymraeg, and this quote from @simonchandler50 on Twitter is exactly how I feel: “To me, Welsh is the most beautiful music and every Welsh speaker is a musician. Listening to the language and speaking it every day is an indescribable joy. How I lived without it for 52 years I will never know, but to live without it now would be unthinkable.”
