I’ve read the related topics here, regarding short and long form Welsh - very interesting - but can I just clarify whether it applies with all verbs? So in challenge 11/level 2 we hear wnest ti wilio - could or would that also be gwiliest ti? or is that just silly?! I’m trying to find some hook that I can hang a rule of thumb onto - so that I can get to grips with this a bit more easily!
All verbs have a short form preterite, usage very much depends on speaker preference, and as a rule of thumb, verbs with three or more syllable tend to be used in long form. So instead of Wnest ti wylio’r gêm? you can just as well say Wyliest ti’r gêm?
