Hiraeth isn’t necessarily a sad longing, it can be a joyous one too. It’s the feeling I have for Wales. I have never lived in Wales but have visited regularly throughout my life to visit family there. I feel that Hiraeth when I think about the places in Wales I have been, those I know and those I would like to visit in the future. It’s often defined as Homesickness or yearning or longing but it’s a whole lot more. Only those of us who have it, know what it is.
