Weekend in Abergavenny with Cymdeithas yr Iaith

If you can’t make a bwtcamp but would like the experience of being immersed in Welsh for a couple of days, Cymdeithas yr Iaith are organising another of their Weekends in Welsh.

This one will take place in Y Fenni (Abergavenny) NEXT weekend (Friday 28/6 to Sunday 30/6) so a quick decision is called for. This weekend is Tafwyl so you could have 2 Welsh-speaking weekends in a row!

The weekend is especially for Welsh learners and as well as chances to practise your Welsh, it will include discovering the history and culture of the area, and learning more about Cymdeithas yr Iaith.

It costs £80 for the entire weekend, which includes activities and accommodation, plus breakfast and snacks. Participants will buy their own food when they’re out and about. (If you have somewhere else in the area to stay, you can ask about a discount on the price.)

It’s aimed at people on Level 2 or above, but I imagine someone near the end of Level 1 who is keen wouldn’t be turned away.

The tentative timetable includes:

Friday night:
17:30 - 18:00 - Arrive
18:15 - 19:15 - Word of Welcome
19:30 - Down to the Crown for an evening of singing and food

Saturday:
10:00 - 11:00 - Session on Welsh music by Patblygu
11:00 - 12:00 - Introduction to SSiW
12:30 - Lunch
13:00 - 14:30 - Still being decided but will include a walk to Y Fenni
14:30 - History walk in Y Fenni
16:30 - 17:00 - History of Cymdeithas yr Iaith language campaigns
18:30 - Takeaway in the Centre and a quiz
19:30 - Socialise in the Crown / games in the Centre

Sunday:
10:00 - 12:00 - Art session
12:30 - 13:30 - Ukulele workshop
14:00 - 16:00 - Live music

Oh, including a session on Welsh music by Patblygu - it would have been the thing for me.
Highly recommended!
Too bad I’m not in Wales, but I’ll make sure to get info in advance if it happens again.

I thought of you immediately  Shame we only got the information through today.
