This year the Urdd National Eisteddfod will be held on the Royal Welsh showground, Builth Wells, 28 May - 2 June 2018.
The Urdd are very keen to find more Welsh speaking volunteers. In fact they need an army of around 200 stewards and volunteers to assist during the week. So if you have the time and fancy spending the week, or even a few hours/days practising your Welsh and socialising in a Welsh speaking environment, then this may be a golden opportunity.

As it’s in Llanfair ym Muallt (Builth), presumably on the Showground. I might just have to apply for this. Where are the ‘Learn how to be helpful to people’ Levels?

*It’s a Radnorshire/Builth thing and dates back to the time that Gwrtheyrn (Vortigern) split Buellt and Gwrtheyrnion between his descendants. The two banks of the Wye have been at each others throats ever since. The residents of Gwrtheyrnion do not appreciate being told that the Showground is in ‘Builth’.

You do not even begin to understand the pain of having my Mums family from Llandrindod / Llanfihangel Rhydithon and going to school in and living in Builth. The divided loyalties made me the man I am today!
But yes, the Urdd Eisteddod will be in Llanelwedd.

I’m just refreshing this thread in case anyone is interested in getting involved with the Eisteddfod yr Urdd by volunteering, and getting a golden opportunity to practise their Welsh!

I’m on the list. I had a thank you e-mail and arranged which days i can do, but haven’t heard anything since. I imagine they are waiting to fill up their timetables, but it’s been painless so far.
Whatever i may have said about Builth / Llanelwedd, there are a lot worse places in the world and in any case you will probably not be staying in the town and it’s interesting denizens. Apply!
