I am starting lesson 10 on course 3 (Southern). Can someone please tell me what the English translation of “Mohono” (mohono fe/ mohoni he etc), as in “I heard that he didn’t see her” “Clooesee nawilothey mohoni he”
I understand “I heard” and “that he didn’t see”. and “her” is “he”. It’s the “mohono” part that I’m stuck on.
Think that it’s a replacement for “mo’r” but for pronouns:
Welais i mo’r gath = I didn’t see the cat.
Welais i mohono fe = I didn’t see him.
Weloedd e mohono hi = He didn’t see her.
My understanding is that it’s a contraction of DIM OHONO. The DI has disappeared, but the negative of DIM is now implied.
Welais i mohono fe, I didn’t see (of) him
Wnes i mohono fe. I didn’t do (of) it
And of course, mohono is often shortened to mo
That makes a bit more sense. Diolch
I think that the idea that it applies to pro nouns, as opposed to nouns, is helpful. If that is the case, regardless of it’s exact translation. Diolch yn fower.
