Level 1 - Challenges 1-7

Well, first of all I meant to post this yesterday (or better today at approximately 1:30 am) but my Polaris Office betrayed me for the first time and data were not saved. Yup, I did Challenge 7 that early in the morning but maybe it was just good I couldn’t save data because I was so sleeppy I probably snoozed over some structures which had to be said so the measurments might be uncomplete. However I remember it was 76 % at the end.

I also feel like I was cheating a bit because I went trough Challenge 7 just some minutes ago again, this time I’m sure all was said and done in whole and the result is quite better and I could say things (understandably) with more confidence and ease then the first time + I really didn’t even think that I might need pause button. Everything (except tinny little 2 or 3 things) was said before Cat. However I believe Challenge 7 is one of the easiest challenges in Level 1. All the rest is harder to do (as much as I could remember from first go of my 15 Challenges) and hard part is only yet to come aproaching that (completely new to me again) Challenge 16 which I didn’t even peared into it yet.

OK, enough of my BLABLABLA … :slight_smile: The statistics are here:

  • C1 = 96 %
  • C2 = 86 %
  • C3 = 85 %
  • C4 = 80 %
  • C5 = 69 %
  • C6 = 79 % and
  • C7 = 89 % (on that 2nd (more complete) go as I’ve described above).

Much more I can not say and the numbers of structures needed to be said and this stuff probably aren’t of anyones interest anymore (even I found them somehow boaring to write them down).

Since I want to keep “week set” of lessons I’ll very likely go for Challenge 8 today aswell (if I won’t be too sleeppy and would snooze in the middle of talking.).

So much for now.

Hwyl!

Level 1 - Challenges 8-14

Before I post statistics I’d like to say some of my findings continuing Level 1. First of all I just found out I am obviously not capable of doing more then a lesson a day. I didn’t do two Challenges on Monday but I did the last two today so I could keep my leanrning on week-set schedule and do my report at the end of the week. Challenge 13 went reasonably good while 14 is not even a bit good despite I had a break of some hours between them doing and the excitement of yesterday’s Wels victory has already gone somewheer in the background of my sub-conscience. I also have to admit, I didn’t have any live speaking practice this week but did only one listening practice a day. It’s quite hard to grab the proper time to do anything if you are away from home for approximately the whole day (and this is really not the excuse but is true).

Well, this is it. Now the statistics:

C8 = 78
C9 = 86
C10 = 79
C11 = 78
C12 = 64
C13 = 68
C14 = 43.

Comming to the last challenge (Challenge 15) which I’ll do for the second time tomorrow and then the challenges will be all “fresh and new” for me I expect marks even to be worse as here come the structures of “he said to me to tell you”, “my sister”, my brother" and similar stuff which caused me to abandon Leven 1 the first time I went through it. I believe if I’ll do them with marks more then 40 % I could be happy but there will surely be worse results.

Well, this is it …

But for the fun of it … I many times relax my sould with playing games and Minecraft is one of such game so I’ve marked my progress way ups and downs this way building a special path according to statistics of the lessons.

This is me standing at the highest point of my learning - 99 % in Course 1 Lesson 6b (Bonus lesson 6) (I’m sorry there are no girraffes in Minecraft so I could pull one with me up there. - lol :slight_smile:

At 43%?! Er, yes it IS:sunny:

At 43 % you’re very close to the lave. Look upper image - lol

:slight_smile:

This much for now, all the rest tomorrow (one Challenge to go for this week - Challenge 21). All I can say for now is that I’m not even a bit satisfied with how I’m doing and that I’ve started to mix what I’ve previously learnt in old courses with what I’m learning now but the mixing doesn’t come the right way. This is not mixing of veriations of one thing to be said different way but mixing of meaning of things what means I’m mixing wrong variations with wrong variations (to clear things, I’m mixing things which have totalyl different meaning …)

Stats and all that (what I can’t be proud of) comming tomorrow … :slight_smile:

:warning:

Those who don’t want to read anything what doesn’t go and stick (into my brains) please stop reading right here as it won’t contribute anything to your learning progress at all.

All the rest, here it is:

Level 1 - Challenges 15-21

C15 = 56 %
C16 = 54 %
C17 = 34 %
C18 = 38 %
C19 = 34 %
C20 = 29 %
C21 = 24 %

C1-7 = 83 %
C8-14 = 72 %
C15-21 = 38 %

Level 1 until now = 65 %

Looking back to my statistics of all material I’ve done and measured my progress with one thing is very obvious: The best results are with the material which I’ve gone through twice or even 3 times and the worst statistics has the pice I never went through before. However making the whole old Course one would think I would go much better through all new material as it is kind of revision of many things (especially shorteninga) but obviously this (at least by me) doesn’t work this way. From what’s seen in the statistics it’s obvious I need repetition of lessons and even then I obviously can not quite cope with many stuff which are a lot of them also qutie easy.

Also there are some confusions. I’ve got finally used to say mae gyda fi ffrind" instead of mae ffrind gyda fi (what I was taught previously) now but here comes another one. I don’t know anymore where to use “dim byd” and where “yn rwybeth arall” as I have a feeling “yn rwybeth arall” is used even where “dim byd” would previously be used. Actually I’m not sure about anything anymore and I’m kind of stucked just like I was at Challenge 15 before I’ve stopped doing Level 1 for the first time.

I expect to do the last sequence in the range of 10 - 20 % (maybe)…

The last week of Level 1 then for me next week but to be honest I’m not looking too much forward to it at this very moment … probably because there’s nothing drastically good to be expected.

For the record: Repetition of Lesson 24-25/2 and Lessons 24-25/3 next month (14.11.2015 to be exact) but I believe I’ll split those two sets into two days because I don’t think I’ll be (mentally) able to do all 4 at one day.

No - sadly, you never are, even though you should be. You’ve done a huge amount of work, you’ve shown clearly that you are learning successfully, but you are determined to focus negatively on what you can’t do yet (even though the approach works by making you attempt things that you can’t do yet!), rather than the huge amount you have learnt. I wish that you could change this, I really do.

I’m a little sad to hear that you’re not looking forward to finding out what your prize for finishing Level 1 is…

:question:

surprise = prize …

Well I didn’t say I’d stop but, to make things clear, I don’t work through only to see what the surprise is. I want to be able to use Cymraeg but whenever I talk (honest I have to be here it’s rearly lately) I just don’t produce much even of what I can say or what I should be able to say.

All I can say is I’ll keep trying …

Yah, true. One day I might be, but at the moment … (or better, until this moment) …

The whole life training of focusing on what you could do better instead of what you’ve acheaved is something what is burried in the soul (I know this the best) and it’s hard to get rid of it overnight (or so) …

I’m trying, not too successfully obviously.

But what I can say actually? Some simple things (not many of them though) all the rest is so blurry in my head. …

I’ll keep :walking: on.

I’m sad upon myself too … However today is obviously such day. Tomorrow it might be better and different …

Well, sometimes a round of applause for that.
Last week i was lucky enough to be in North Wales, and i was corrected for a mistake i made with a reply from course one (is there any hope for me).
I thanked the lady (a rhaid i mi wella) then carried on
(you are progressing faster than me so just enjoy the confusion).

Cheers J.P.

I’m going on faster what isn’t neccessarly progressing aswell. Progress for me is knowing, remembering, learning something (most of all remembering as my memory has 1000 holes through which everything disappears like into the black hole) and then using it. I coudl see yesterday in conversation with @brigitte I am able to use some things mostly from Course 1 but simply can’t remember how to use things from course 2 what even 3. (Except of things like well i fi, alla i dim, wella and similar little stuff … ).

I strongly believe you’re doing much better no matter how slow you go through.

This is true - it’s not an easy switch. Maybe it would help you if you did some specific work on attitude? You’re very brave to hang on in there with the learning when it feels so tough, but maybe doing some more precise work on attitude would help it feel less tough…

It might be interesting for you to do the quick test on the website for Carol Dweck’s superb book ‘Mindset’: http://mindsetonline.com/testyourmindset/step1.php (and I also strongly recommend the book itself).

Diolch @aran.

And you’re very kind to still have me here and help me. I could never be thankful enough.

Thank you very much to all the other members who ever tried to encourage me and help me whatever way.

SSi rocks! :slight_smile:

(umm … well … sun is shining today as I’ve said that things will be seen different today. :slight_smile: )

Good :sunny: Even when you don’t feel positive, saying positive words anyway has a very strong correlation with changing your state… :sunny:

While doing Challenge 22 I thought it goes all really bad, even worse then yesterday with Challenge 21 but I was mistaken this time …I did Challenge 22 by 6 % better then Challenge 21 despite I almost didn’t remember the newly introduced words and phrases at all after a while.

And … I’ve done the suggested test @aran and as expected the result was such that I really have very fixed mindset. I also took your recommendation and bought a book and will surely start working on my mind and the way of thinking. Let’s see what comes out …

It might turn out to be a very important book for you, then - because there is solid scientific evidence that the beliefs that surround a fixed mindset are misplaced… :sunny:

Well done with 22… :sunny:

I’ve just finished Challenge 23 of Level 1 and tomorrow is kind of day D - the last challenge of Level 1 available for the time being - Challenge 24. If it would go as it went today (apart from things I just can’t make them remain in my memory) I could be kind of satisfied comparing to previous Challenges. I went up for another 21 % from Challenge 23. But there’s not time for celebration, not yet until all is finished …

So … see you later at one point of this day (yup it’s another day already) … :slight_smile:

By the way, are you doing the daily listening exercises for Level 1? They’re very important :sunny:

Owow …

I’m doing listening practices daily but not for Level, rather for Course 2.

Ups … obviously I’ve missed one important thing here. What now?

Go and look at the download pages for Challenges 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 for Level 1. On each of those pages, there is a listening exercise. Each listening exercise includes everything you’ve covered up to that point in Level 1, in as close to a ‘real’ dialogue as possible. They are far, far more effective than the old listening material - you should do one every day, but if you can manage two or three, that will be even better… :sunny:
