Today Rhiannon and I went to the London Language Show. The Welsh Language Taster Session was really good. Around 80 people crammed into a room for a taste of the Welsh alphabet, meeting and greeting vocab and formed a lively pop up choir singing various Welsh phrases to the tune of Frère Jacques. Our tutor, from Cardiff Uni, was bowled over by the numbers and enthusiasm. It was good, too, to meet another SSIWer.
The LLS didn’t have a Welsh presence other than this - perhaps next year a stand showcasing Welsh and other Celtic languages? It’s a great event (held every October) but the featured languages are almost invariably the most widely publicised. Definitely a suggestion for the organisers who seem very receptive to ideas.
It was great to meet you and Rhiannon at the Welsh taster yesterday. It was excellent, but having got so fired up, it was a shame there was nothing to follow it up with - a Welsh stand for further info. or apps, etc.
I would like to come to the meetup in Guildford today at 2 pm but can only find one at Albourne 1-4pm or is that the same one?
I lost Rhiannon’s email address but tried to send her one from memory!
Dioch yn fawr iawn,

The SSIW meeting today was in Albourne, Mark’s house. One of the members lives in Guildford but as yet there haven’t been meet ups there.
I had a look at the SSIW map - seem to be quite a few members in your area. Have you thought about getting in touch with some of them through the forum?
I mentioned us meeting to the group today and someone suggested that you might like to see what’s going on at the London Welsh Centre - she said they have an informal
meet-up every Thursday evening. Worth looking at the website - and certainly contacting local SSIWers. We’ve built up the group here that way.
A few of us are hoping to go the London Welsh Centre on November 1st for a day of lessons - they’re usually very good. Again, all that’s on the website. I think there are SSIW groups in London but probably not in your area. We started really small and have build up - you’re very welcome to come along to a meet-up to see what happens (it’s very informal) and perhaps you could get some ideas about how to start/build up a SW London group! Next meeting is November 15th near Lewes.
I agree - would have been great to have a Welsh stand at the LLS - maybe next year!
BTW - Mark is the Sussex and Hampshire group co-ordinator (he lives in Albourne). Geoffrey is my husband who you also met yesterday.
