Stu's Learning Log

¡Hola a todos!

Challenges 18 and 19 are done, and they are not getting any easier. They are really stretching me, but I am finding that, on the whole, I am coping with them. Taking Aran’s advice on board about not fretting about remembering everything in the lessons is helping a lot. At the end of 19, things get very frantic, with a couple of super-long sentences that take me ages to say - so much so that I am talking over Gaby let alone Rosa! But I am kinda getting there with them. I am going to have to repeat 19 when I get the chance - Monday now probably - just to feel that I have absorbed the great content to my personal satisfaction. One question however - can I replace ten cuídado in the sentence Ten cuídado cuando vayas caminando a la cuidad with cuídate - Cuídate cuando vayas caminando a la cuidad ?

I am about to complete Spanish 2 with Memrise too, so that should be fun. I will move straight on the Spanish 3. The vocab they are covering gels really well with SSiS, so it is very useful.

Hasta luego,

Stu

Sounds as though the balance is just about perfect…

I’ll leave ‘ten cuidado’ vs ‘cuidate’ for @gabycortinas - just adding the usual ‘all this stuff comes out in the wash through active conversation’ rider, which you’ve already heard hyd syrffeit, wrth gwrs…

¡Hola a todos!

Challenge 19 is still proving to be a real challenge, especially near the end. The words are not flowing at all, but they are in my head I think, so only practice will sort that out. I am going to move on the lesson 20 in the hope that it all gets better from there, like it has so far throughout Levels 1 and 2. Quería que ella te ayudara a ocuparte de los preparativos, pero dijo que estaba demasiado ocupada, I ask you!

¡Hola a todos!

Challenge 20 went nicely, which was heartening  . I have filmed myself doing the lesson whilst driving and will post the video once it is tidied up and I can find somewhere to put it up on the web. It was very nice to have an easier lesson after the recent struggles! So the end of Level 2 is within sight now, and I am starting to wonder how to continue once I reach the end…

Hasat luego,

Awesome - looking forward to seeing this!

We should be starting work on Level 3 in the next couple of months - but as you already know, conversation practice is now what you need more than anything…

The audio track on my video was ultra quiet and I cannot seem to boost it, even using applications that claim to be able to do just that; and I cannot work out how to do anything with Audacity :frowning: . Looks like the dashcam’s audio recording feature is hopeless despite it producing really good video quality (.mov files with HD quality). Tried again with Challenge 21 this morning, but my tweaks had no effect on the audio volume. I’m going to have to rethink how a do this safely.

Hasta pronto,

Does your video tool have an input level?

What video editing software do you have?

I’ve tried a couple Aran (MovieMaker and a trial version of Faasoft Video Converter), but the original level is abysmally low. I did rip the audio track out into Audacity, and amplify/noise reduce it, and it helped, but I have no idea how to reapply it to my video - if that is at all possible. I am going to have to think of another way…

If you can send me the raw file, I can have a go at playing around with it in some of the packages I’ve used over the years…
