Yay!
This morning I lost my place on the web app and “revisit” seems to have moved me forward a bit - I am “revisiting” words the app has never given me before, along with really really basic stuff like “dw i isio siarad Cymraeg”. Any suggestions?
Ok, I’ve been fiddling with it for an hour, and when I left the app earlier I’d just been taught “y dyn” and was making sentences along the lines of “byddai’r dyn ifanc yn trio dysgu”. Since I picked it back up, I have “revisited” ffriend, nabod, and mae hi isio, none of which I’d come across before. There’s no sign of dyn, or dyn ifanc, or any of the language I had been working with before. I also can’t seem to move back any further than where I am now, regardless of how much I revisit, after 4 or 5 easy sentences it resets to “mae hi isio”.
midpost edit Having written the above paragraph, I tried to log in and out, and it’s brought me back in to yet another new phrase - “sydd isio”. When I revisit, the first practice sentence includes “friend”, so I can only assume the app is trying to bump me forward 10+ minutes each time I have to close it.
I was excited to try the app because I learn while I’m driving and it looked like it would be easier to navigate. I’m on lesson 16 and it started me back at the beginning with no option to skip forward. I emailed about it and was told to go to my account or something and my learning would be there. There wasn’t anything on the page and was told it was ok if I just wanted to use the website. I wanted use rhe app however
The new learning method in the app doesn’t know anything about your progress in the audio files, the Challenges, so it starts from the beginning.
At the bottom of the app, there is a link called ‘Account’. If you click on that, you’ll see some options. One of those is ‘My Resources’.
Click on that and you’ll be able to choose ‘Classic Challenges’. Those are the audio files you’ve been using, so you can go to Challenge 16. They are all downloadable as mp3 files, so you can save them to your device and play them as you’re driving.
The Tech Team are working on an update to the ‘Skip’ functionality which will allow you to jump forward in the course until you feel you’re in about the right place, then continue on from them. It’s not ready for release yet though.
I’m not quite clear. Do you mean you’ve been using the lessons in the app, or you were using the lessons somewhere else and just now tried the app and it’s different?
If you scroll up a couple of comments on this thread there are some screenshots of the app. Is that anything like how it looks for you, with the red at the bottom and the four options Home, Learning, Stats, and Account?
If that isn’t it, and the interface has more of a green theme, I’m afraid you may be on the old app.
The old app is not supported, and while it still works on some older devices, it will only become less compatible with every system update your device has.
If the screenshots look like what you see on your device, then you need to follow the path Deborah has given, and the screenshots show what each stage of that should look like. You do need to have signed in and chosen your language from the drop-down menu - the app should have prompted you to do this when you first opened it.
If it is the right app, you’re signed in and have chosen your language, and resources are missing when you follow the route described, then you can be sure something is broken. You might want to email support with images of how it looks on your device. Or, basic “fix”: uninstall and reinstall the app.
“Have you tried turning it off and on again?” is a meme for a reason. Sometimes it just works!
A tangentially-related one from me - possibly worth tagging @rich? - as I, too, like to learn while driving, washing up, etc. I’m finding at the moment that playback keeps stopping. I go to the app, and find that it ‘thinks’ that it’s still going (i.e. pause button shows on screen, allowing me to pause it, rather than play button showing, as it would if it were paused or stopped); I pause it, then immediately press Play, and play resumes - for a while (sometimes this happens repeatedly). The shortest interval I’ve had between pauses was when a word was introduced, repeated by the first voice, and then it stopped again just as the second voice started.
I did think that it might be a focus thing, but it appears to still happen even when I haven’t got anything else running in the foreground. It’s possible that I’ve got a large enough profile that that could be part of the picture; or it might be that the phone is doing some manufacturer-specific aggressive battery optimisation that keeps stopping it, which I believe Samsung is known to do. However, if it ‘thinks’ it’s still running, I don’t know if that’s the answer.
Obviously, stopping every 5-10 minutes, or even before the second speaker manages to get a word in, makes hands-free pretty unusable; and, obviously, that’s not the intended behaviour. Any suggestions for any kind of diagnostic or preventative measures I can take? Any benefit in adding ‘taking a look at my account’ to someone’s To-Do list?
