Spanish questions

I hope it’s OK to post my query here till the Spanish forum is up and running.

I’ll be celebrating my 70th birthday in May in Languedoc and then Catalunya and finishing in the Basque country.

  1. Starting from almost nothing, should I tackle the level 1 Spanish course, the Tourist course or both?
  2. If both, which one first?
  3. Is Spanish actually well received in Barcelona and Bilbao?

Any advice will be appreciated

Hi Huw,

I can only speak sensibly about Bilbo, having been there. Spanish is spoken there everywhere, but Basque will be received best by those whose speak it - all school kids learn it, for instance, but it is not a majority language there, as far as I know. I recommend visiting Donostia (San Sebastian), very pretty!

Prepare yourself with ‘I’m sorry I don’t speak Euskara/Catalan, I’ve only just started to learn Castellano’ and you’ll be good…

I’d go with Level 1 - you’ve plenty of time until May, and you can always whirl through the tourist stuff just before going…

Thanks for the sound advice, @Aran & @Louis.
I’ll get stuck in to Level 1 and (apart from the September Bootcamp) put Welsh on the back burner for a bit.
Gracias yn fawr iawn

I’ll look forward very much to hearing how it goes for you…

Ooh, if you’re coming to September bootcamp we’ll have to find an opportunity to step out of hearing range from the other bootcampers and try out some Spanish

Bydd rhaid i ni “sibrwd yn dawel”

I don’t think the Spanish know how to ‘sibrwd’ Huw. It’s all ‘gweiddi yn uchel’ with them
