Song transcription (collaborative) challenge

I am curious which sounds those are! Do you remember what they “sort of” sound like? If not, write down a time stamp or two next time you listen pretty please. Also, I am dying to know where y cyfle wedi mynd TO!!! My romantic’s heart must know! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::laughing:

Oh yeah! @gisella-albertini I made a few word additions to my list, including one that is a possible Welsh version of your Italwenglish! Dyfrio might just be dy frio! If not, it’s “watering” in Saesneg :rofl::rofl:

Yeeh! By the way, now I’m going to try another chunk - but it can’t get much better than that. At some point we need to drag someone more expert in the team!

p.s. one of the sounds is a bit between French e and u, but with some additional Bob Dylan-kinda nasal tone.
Then…I can’t remember, going to check it out and let you know!

Whooooaaahhh… :exploding_head: I speak some French, so I’m trying to wrap my mind around that!

I completely agree, although the struggle is fun!

Wahoo! I’m listening causally letting things pop into my awareness hahaha… good thing I like the song (for now, hope I’m not sick of it soon!)

Oh maybe one thing I can do is highlighting the words from your list I seem to hear too, in my Italwelglish so we’ll know which one are still unidentified!

By the way, not in your list and can’t be sure it’s the right one there, but poeth is a Welsh word!

Please feel free to add any words you pick out that are Welsh rather than Italwelglish and add them to “my list…” I am hoping anyone will add stuff. I haven’t come across poeth yet, though I noticed it in your section earlier… but I haven’t heard it yet in my casual play-throughs… I will focus this time!!!

That’s a great idea!

Oooops… I have to start over! Attention of a fruit fly, apparently… :mosquito:

What I suppose being Northern sounds:
around min 0:26 that “ffow ishi” I don’t know how to write cause it seems Japanese more than the Welsh sounds I’m used to. And also 0:44 “fyeni” has an unusual touch!

This part sounds like “ici” in French to me when I play it… I have no idea what that would be yn Gymraeg, north or south!

I feel like there’s a vowel missing there maybe, like I’m hearing some kind of dipthong or I don’t know what… like o-w-y… So I’m hearing something like “fo y” where the “w” sound might be incidental when moving “o” to “y…” What do you think?

Truly, I have no clue what they could be yet!

EDIT: I keep forgetting to mention… until you wrote the Italwenglish for “Batthiw yn poeth” I was hearing “a human boy,” which I knew was highly unlikely! :joy:

Ha ha,these are some of the great moments of transcriptions!

Just posted an update sorto of fill-all-the-syllables-with-whatever-you seem-to-hear and then we’ll see.
Some funny stuff, including “san mai grosso” that’s kinda fake italian.

Still haven’t tried to check if any of those sounds are actual words!
Next step - but in the meantime you can check too if you’re around!

Wow, you did soooo much! I will take another look later on and see what I can work out!

Well I did so much of…utter nonsense, though!

My…er…“technique”… is the fastest way to become able to follow and sing along a song just for the fun of it.
But turning it into real words is complicated. :no_mouth:

…and this gives the idea! I don’t really know, at the moment!

However another thing that I find really funny is making up meanings out of Italwelglish as an imaginary language mixing the three (and more if needed).
Like: “Ond tida li weli” could mean “but tidy up the bed” :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

@gisella-albertini - yeah I have had a look at the Datblygu transcription thanks a lot!

My recognition of the spoken word is so rudimentary at the moment that I fear I can’t yet add anything of value to what you and @sasha-lathrop have posted in the google doc! I’m going to a local meet-up on Saturday afternoon so we will see what a bit of intensive listening and speaking practice does for my ear!

Hahahaha! Yeah, that is definitely a fun part… whatever it takes to get singing along, and the details and accuracy can follow!

Don’t forget, I am willing to chat with you and give you a chance to practice, wherever you are at in your challenges… I often end up freezing when it is time to speak Welsh, and the practice will be just as good for me!

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

Welsh music (specifically alt-rock and indie rock) is a huge part of why I’m learning Welsh, so I’ve been listening (almost exclusively…) to Welsh music. I’ve got a few lyrics already transcribed and discovered via other sites for artists like Fleur de Lys, Gwilym, Sŵnami, Yws Gwynedd, etc. and I can’t wait to add them to the group document!

You have made my day, possibly my week, and maybe even my entire MONTH with this thread and challenge, diolch yn fawr!! :two_hearts:

WOW! Croeso!!!

I am so glad you have joined our “team” here in this post, and I am so happy to hear that we have brought some joy into your life with our project! It is great to have you here to help!

I have been listening to nothing but Welsh music for months now (well, I did listen to Omnia a few times, and they have a few different languages, but not Welsh), and the music coming out of Cymru has been a huge motivating factor that has kept me going in my learning journey!

I can’t wait to see your contributions!

Kewl! If you PM me your skype name and what sort of times you’re likely to be free I’ll send you an invite from my skype. :grinning:

@Telyn_Marco @gisella-albertini @shaun

I added a “MASTER LIST - All Songs” tab to the spreadsheet so we can go to one place to find all of the songs we love, from all types of contributors. Don’t worry about alphabetizing the lists, just add your new songs to the bottom and specify the contributor (your tag, an official source, etc.). I’ll check in and sort by artist now and then.

I also added Adwaith’s Fel I Fod to the “Official” tab with lyrics from Ochr1 and translation by @delawarejones (let me know if you would like it taken down), as well as Alffa Band’s Gwenwyn to “Our Lyrics,” with whatever words yn Gymraeg I can come up with, coming soon… I have no idea where to start, I haven’t really tried too hard on Gwenwyn yet.

So it’s easy to find:

For those still developing their listening skills, check out DistantDreamer93 on youtube who has oodles of songs yn Gymraeg with subtitles in the videos! I owe her a HUGE debt of gratitude for the progress I have made in listening to and understanding songs in Welsh! (No updates in the last 4 years, sadly)

Alright!
It’s good to have a list with all the songs, although I guess it would be better for readers outside the team to be able to understand right away which ones are official/completed and which ones are a mess!!!
Maybe a pinkish/red background on the ones they’d better not open?

And hey, it’s great to have already one more daring to join this crazy bunch! Welcome @shaun!

I changed the backgrounds for “Ours.” “Completed,” and “Official” to red/orange/green, and when you copy and past to the master list the backgrounds carry over and sort along with the cells. Let me know what you think!
