Something to eat

Hi. In level 1 chap 23 (south)

‘Something to eat’ sounds like ‘rhwybeth I’W bwyta’

Could someone explain what the ‘w’ is for as so far I’ve just seen the verb or sometimes ‘I’ before the verb?

yes, in Welsh you get something like "something to its eating* " (*other verbs too), which of course makes no sense in English.

The 'w stands in for " i ei " which never gets used because the sounds are virtually identical and you just wouldn’t ever say what sounds like “eee eee”.
