Small World

I was just idly browsing the Amserlen for today’s Radio Cymru on the website, when a face on a programme description looked very familiar:

Sesiwn Fach with Idris Morris Jones, and who was the face looking out at me, but none other than Ken from K-Kabs Tacsi from Rownd a Rownd. Checked the end credits, and sure enough, that’s him.
Well well (wel, wel…)

…and the unmistakable sound of Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five” at around 36 minutes in … incredible…
…followed by “Square Dance” …

I’ll just “take five” to take my hat off to Paul Desmond whose unique alto sax made the highlight of Brubeck’s stuff IMO

Agreed!

Idris Morris Jones is Jac y Jwc in the Pentre Bach series (based on the learning to read series of Sali Mali books) which appears on Cyw on S4C in the mornings.

Being a popular and rather amusing character he also, is almost always chosen to be one of the characters in the live Cyw shows which tour theatres and schools during the Christmas period and which are staged throughout both the Urdd and National Eisteddfods.

Hey Mike - how about Glad to be Unhappy? I enjoy that one. I have an alto and if there is one sound that’s hard to nail it’s PD’s. Long-time admirer of his playing.

Not sure if I know that … will have to go and check. Not a jazz expert, but I know what I like, and I love listening to Brubeck/Desmon. Sounds like you have a lot of fun on your alto!

@Catrin Lliar Jones: Diolch Catrin. I noticed he was a lovely clear speaker on Sesiwn fach. Great for us learners to listen to.

I’m the same, Mike. Miles Davis is my man. alt text
