I went to the Show on Monday. As an immersion experience it’s fantastic. You get to hear Welsh conversations all around you, You can speak to stall holders and other people in Welsh, even talk to sheep in Welsh. In the ‘Food hygiene tent’ there was a pantomime about food hygiene, again in Welsh.
However not everyone can get to Builth, but I have just discovered that S4C are releasing extensive coverage from the show, and available worldwide! A lot of it is interviews with farmers, some of whom are quite shy about being on the telly, and some technical farming terms but these are real Welsh speakers (not TV presenters with ‘proper’ Welsh) and you get to see lots of cows and sheep too, so an opportunity not be missed?

Hmmmm … I wonder about this one … “pantomime in Welsh”?
Did you see Gareth Wyn Jones being interviewed. This is the farmer from North Wales I follow on Twitter and Facebook and he’s actually quite “famous” BBC farmer. Maybe someone watched “The Hill Farmer” broadcast approximately a year ago. The most recognizable “moment” in this broadcast was when he tells about the loss of many sheeps during the sudden snow and cold on the hills (of Snowdonia I believe). I even bought his book (in Welsh) but I didn’t start to read it yet though. Maybe it’s time to do so now.
And mentioning sheeps … his sheeps are surely there somewhere. Whoever is planning to go there should say hi to the sheeps.
Well, I just had to write this down as you reminded me about him and his broadcast(s).
Gareth Wyn Jones is one of the presenters on the English language coverage of the show for BBC Wales.

Yes, and he’s Welsh speaker and mostly when I tweet to him I tweet in Cymraeg. And he’s very happy with that. He promotes Welsh (at least on Social media).
I watch Y Sioe every day on S4C. Today (Wednesday) is Cob Day! The day when the best cobs are judged in the afternoon. They are gorgeous animals with huge presence. Cobs in England tend to be rather put-upon creatures used for generations for dull pulling of carts. A fine Cob Cymreig of either sex is glorious, courageous and always made me envious of the owners!!! (When I was still fit enough to ride one of those trained to the saddle!)
Winner last year!! (I think!)
